Amethystine Pythons (also known as Scrub Pythons) are Australia’s largest snake, reaching verified lengths of over five meters, although there are a few unverified claims of individuals up to 8m. Found in the tropical forests and savannahs of northern Australia, they are non-venomous constrictors that feed on birds, reptiles, and small mammals. Despite their seemingly cumbersome size, they are agile climbers and often hunt from elevated positions, climbing trees in a mesmeric ring of powerful coils. This particular animal was pushing 3.5m, however it showed absolutely no concerns as it effortlessly looped it’s way up a charred tree - yet another hallmark of the northern bush.
