Black Swans are a familiar but graceful sight on lakes, estuaries, and quiet rivers—especially through the southern parts of Australia. Almost completely black, they stand out with a deep red bill and flashes of white under the wings when they fly. Males can weigh up to nine kilograms and stretch over two metres wide, but there’s a softness to the way they move —calm, steady and often in pairs gliding across the surface.
